WRD begins restoration of British-era anaicut across Palar river in Ranipet
The check dam and its 39 sluice gates, built in 1858, suffered severe damage during the 2021 floods. Floodwater released from the dam had led to an eroded riverbed that further weakened the structure. The project, estimated at ₹222.14 cr., is expected to be completed by 2026, says WRD engineer
