High-level committee formed to probe into New Delhi railway station stampede
The Railways took 20 hours since the stampede to confirm that the tragedy had indeed occurred. On Saturday, conflicting statements arose from multiple official spokespersons, with one of them denying that the incident had occurred. The Railways started distributing ex gratia to the kin of the dead, since 4 a.m. on Sunday, even before announcing it in the official statement.
